1.Traditions and innovations
Our university is one of the oldest universities in Ukraine!
The first Architectural faculty of Kharkiv was formed on the basis of our university, which at that time was called the Kharkiv Institute of Municipal Construction Engineers.
The history of the department dates back to 1934. From the first days, institute gathered a team of professional architects, whose names represented the pride of national architecture and urban planning. This is an outstanding architect, academician of architecture, professor O. M. Beketov, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Architecture of the USSR V. I. Pushkarev, one of the founders of Ukrainian modern K. M. Zhukov, a connoisseur of classical architecture, Professor F. A. Chernomorchenko, one of the brightest representatives of the architecture of constructivism, Professor Y. A. Steinberg, architect-practitioner A. V. Linetsky, an outstanding master of modern prof. A. M. Ginzburg. The greatest urban planners of Ukraine taught urban planning art at the department - the author of the master plan of Kharkiv, professor, honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects A. L. Eingorn, author of the master plan of Kiev P. Haustov.
Continuing the traditions of outstanding architects, the department offers you two educational programs of architectural specialty in the master's degree:
- architecture of buildings and structures;
- architectural environment design.
The first of them combines all the historical traditions of architectural education, all the experience gained by the oldest of the professions of architect. The design of the architectural environment is an interdisciplinary field, embodies the novelty of the development of architectural theory and uses innovative design methods.
2. Opportunities for integration into European education
The department takes an active part in the Bologna process. Thanks to the introduction of three-level higher education, based on the division of bachelor's, master's and postgraduate studies, as well as the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), both our students and foreign students studying at O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy, fully mobile and can easily continue their education in another country of the European Union.
As part of the Erasmus program, the department exchanges students with architectural universities in Estonia and Slovenia.
The Department has a Double Diploma program with the Lublin Polytechnic (Poland, Lublin) for Masters. One year of study in Poland and 1 year of study at our department guarantees you two diplomas.
The diploma of the architect received after the termination of our university is the diploma of the international standard and recognized not only in Europe, but also in the world.
3. Opportunities to do science
The Department of Architecture of Buildings and Structures and Architectural Environment Design conducts the educational process at three levels of higher education. After graduating, you have the opportunity to engage in research activities in the field of architecture and do both on a budget and on a paid basis in postgraduate studying.
The Specialized Academic Council works on the basis of the department and the faculty for the defense of candidate dissertations.
Defense in the Specialized Council gives you the opportunity to obtain the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of architecture, which increases your employment opportunities in design organizations and research institutes, as well as in higher education institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries.
4. High level of education
The high level of education is achieved by the compliance of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department with the licensing conditions of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. The department employs high-level teachers, as well as architects - practitioners.
Obtaining theoretical knowledge is combined with fundamental practical lessons. The base of practices of the department covers all major design and construction companies in Kharkiv. The introductory internship of students takes place in Odessa, Kyiv, Lviv, and is also offered for choice of internship in Italy and Greece in the summer.
Teachers of the department conduct parallel practical activities in the field of architectural, urban planning and design projecting. Teachers of the department and students also take part in the real competitive design.
5. Affordable prices for studying, comfort of study and living
The university carries out educational activities both on a budgetary and contractual basis. Affordable prices are offered for contract studying in comparison with other cities and universities of Ukraine. Students from other cities are provided with a dormitory: the University campus (located near the metro station) and two dormitories located on the territory of the housing and communal college. Comfortable living conditions in dormitories are provided by the availability of spacious living rooms for 2-3 people, equipped libraries, gyms, classrooms with Internet access.
To ensure the educational process and creative work of students and teachers, there is a complex of architectural and artistic workshops ARHOUSE, which is located in the forest park. On different floors of the building there are: computer modeling laboratory (with specialized equipment and software), drawing and painting workshop, sculpture workshop, architectural modeling laboratory, exhibition hall, conference hall, student architectural and design bureau, landscape and architectural workshop.
